About Vote Run Lead
Vote Run Lead trains women to run for office and win, reaching over 55,000 women across America. Our alumni serve on city councils, county boards, state houses, supreme courts, and Congress. We unleash the political power of women as voters, candidates, and leaders to create and sustain an equitable democracy. Launched in 2014, today, Vote Run Lead is four times the size of our start, reaching tens of thousands of women—nearly 60% of whom are women of color and 20% of whom are from rural America.
About the Presenters
Beth Peterson, State Director for Minnesota, Vote Run Lead
Beth Peterson is dedicated to improving women’s lives and empowering their voices, and is especially passionate about reducing poverty in rural Northeast Minnesota. She has successfully advocated for policy changes that directly affect the ability of women and girls to move to self-sufficiency, including access to early childhood education and non-traditional career pathways. Beth has managed numerous political campaigns and she has also won elected office herself, serving a term as City Councilor in Eveleth, Minnesota. She holds a bachelor’s degree in applied psychology from the University of Minnesota—Duluth and is a founding board member of the Rural and American Indigenous Leadership (RAIL) organization. Beth also sits on the boards of Apple Tree Learning Center and the Aurora Food Shelf and is a former member of the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits Northeast Advisory Team. Beyond her work in policy, Beth enjoys volunteering in the community with her family, which includes her husband and four children, who provide her with daily opportunities to learn ever more about the human condition.
Kate Lundquist, Deputy State Director for Minnesota, Vote Run Lead
Native Minnesotan Kate Lundquist is dedicated to expanding opportunities for women and girls in her community (and everywhere!). Based in Minneapolis since 2020, she has worked with several successful political campaigns including those of Brooklyn Park Councilmember Xp Lee, Minnesota State Rep. Esther Agbaje, and Minnesota State Sen. Clare Oumou Verbeten. Kate has also served as a Human Rights Commissioner for the City of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. Prior to her political engagements, she was born and raised in Duluth, Minnesota, and went on to graduate from Bemidji State University in 2004 with a K–8 teaching license, after which she spent several years teaching middle school English in the remote rural town of Roseau, Minnesota, located on the border with Canada. She has also worked as a birth doula. A final note: As a breast cancer survivor, Kate always reminds women that self-checks, routine doctor visits, and mammograms are key to early detection and survival!
