Ethical Dilemmas in Healthcare: Practices and Principles

Open to all social workers and students

Presenter: Peter Bauck, PhD, BCC

2 CEUs  (ethics) - VIRTUAL EVENT

There are difficult decisions every day in healthcare. Healthcare staff, patients, and families put together treatment plans for numerous health issues in complex situations. Some of these situations involve conflict and uncertainty around the values of the healthcare staff, patients, and families involved. The latter situations are ethical dilemmas and challenging to navigate. We will look at one model for working through ethical dilemmas in healthcare: the four-box method. The boxes provide a way to work through an ethical dilemma while placing healthcare practice and ethical principles in conversation. Our time will be grounded in a specific ethics case from the acute care setting.
