This session will explore the unique clinical considerations when working with transgender children and adolescents. Participants will examine the risk factors and barriers to care that disproportionately affect young transgender children, such as limited access to gender-affirming care, heightened anxiety, depression, bullying, and social or familial rejection. The workshop will emphasize evidence-based clinical interventions and involve practical approaches for clinicians to support these children and their families.
Learning Objectives:
1. Identify two - three risk factors that may adversely impact transgender children and youth.
2. Recognize three concerns that parents of transgender youth may experience, and explore strategies to support them.
About the Presenter
Susan Radzilowski earned her MSW from The University of Michigan, specializing in Interpersonal Practice. With over 35 years of experience as a Clinical Social Worker, she primarily works with children, adolescents, young adults, and their families. She runs a small online private practice in Michigan, focusing on transgender and gender-questioning youth and their families. Susan also teaches in the MSW programs at The University of Michigan and Wayne State University.
