Join Melissa Conway, LICSW and Senior Director of Clinical Education and Case Management at Minnesota Mental Health Clinics, for an advanced practice training focused on the Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicide (CAMS) model. This session will provide an in-depth exploration of the CAMS framework, its history, and underlying philosophy, while contrasting it with traditional approaches to suicide prevention. Participants will gain hands-on experience with the key components of CAMS, including conducting suicide status assessments, core and risk assessments, and effective treatment planning.
The training will cover critical skills for the first session, include stabilization planning and strategies for focusing interim sessions using the CAMS therapeutic worksheet. Additionally, we will explore the final session process using the Living Status Form, with an emphasis on transitioning from the CAMS model back to traditional therapeutic care.
By the end of this session, participants will be equipped with advanced tools and strategies to assess and manage suicidal risk effectively, immediately applicable to clinical practice for improving patient outcomes and reducing the risk of harm.

- Method for engaging client in comprehensive safety planning.
- Writing treatment plans specified to suicidality and reducing risk.
- Identifying when a client can transition from a suicide prevention specific treatment plan to a more traditional outpatient therapy treatment plan.
- How to engage client in relapse prevention planning.
About the Presenter
Melissa Conway is an LICSW based out of Saint Paul, MN. Melissa earned her bachelor's degree in generalist social work practice at Minnesota State University, Mankato, and her master’s degree in clinical social work from the University of St. Thomas and St. Catherine's University. Melissa has provided mental health care to individuals, groups, and families, and has extensive experience treating patients across the lifespan in a variety of settings including residential care, day treatment, intensive outpatient programming, partial hospitalization programming, in-home therapy, emergency departments, primary care clinics, and outpatient clinics. Melissa currently serves as Senior Director of Clinical Education and Case Management at Minnesota Mental Health Clinics where she also provides individual and family therapy. Outside of her full-time role, Melissa is co-chair of the Minnesota Holistic Medicine Group, serves on the NASW-MN Ethics Committee, privately contracts as a Critical Incident Support/Mental Health First Aid specialist, and engages in public speaking and education surrounding mental health and wellness.
