Ever wonder what it takes to become an adjunct? Join us and hear from our panelists! 

We’ve invited folks from different institutions to be a part of our panel to discuss the process of becoming an adjunct, including how to learn about opportunities, key contacts, and logistical considerations. Experienced adjuncts will also share their personal experiences and offer insights and advice on pursuing opportunities in higher education.

About the Panelists

Amanda R. Thooft, MSW, LCSW, LICSW is a dedicated social work educator, supervisor, and clinician. She has been an adjunct professor at the University of St. Thomas since 2013, teaching courses including Field Seminar, Clinical Practice with Older Adults, and Program Management and Clinical Supervision. She has also taught Human Behavior and Social Environment at the College of St. Catherine and undergraduate Statistics and Research at the College of St. Scholastica.

In addition to her academic roles, Amanda provides supervision for licensure and operates a private therapy practice, Authentic Living Therapy (authentic-living-therapy.com). She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Social Work degree at the University of St. Thomas with the goal of becoming a more effective and impactful professor.

Her passion for social work education and supervision stems from a deep belief in the importance of mentorship and professional development within the field.

Jade Erickson, MSW, LICSW  is a psychotherapist working in Minneapolis. She specializes in working with complex trauma and complex forms of grief. She is trained in EMDR, and utilizes IFS, Narrative, and psychodynamic approaches in this work. Jade is also trained and practices as a Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapist. Jade is adjunct faculty with Augsburg University, St. Thomas University, and St. Mary’s University.

Paula Watts Zehringer, LISW has taught as an adjunct and fixed term Social Work faculty at St. Cloud State University (SCSU) and Augsburg University in their bachelor and masters programs. Paula has been teaching since 2002 and has been a social worker since 1992. She graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from SCSU in 1992 and her MSW from Augsburg in 1999. Paula currently teaches as an adjunct instructor at SCSU and provides education and supervision services to social workers that have license violations with the MN Board of Social Work. She has worked in a variety of other social work roles and settings like schools, court and county services, community-based services, aging services and family advocacy and support.
