Participants will explore the unique characteristics and challenges of Generation Alpha, the fi rst generation to grow up fully immersed in an AI-driven world. This presentation will delve into how technology, including AI, and the unprecedented impact of COVID-19 have shaped the development of social interest and interpersonal connections among today’s youth. Social workers and educators will gain valuable insights into fostering social interest in Generation Alpha, while addressing the long-lasting eff ects of the pandemic on their social and emotional growth. Professionals will be equipped with strategies to build meaningful relationships and support emotional development, enabling them to eff ectively guide the next generation through an ever-evolving landscape
Learning Objectives:
1. Identify the Key Influences on Generation Alpha’s Social Development: Participants will examine the role of AI, technology, and the COVID-19 pandemic in shaping the social and emotional development of Generation Alpha, understanding how these factors infl uence social interest and interpersonal connections.
2. Understand the Long-Term Impacts of COVID-19 and Rapid AI Transformation on Generation Alpha’s Social Skills: Participants will explore how the combined eff ects of the COVID-19 pandemic and rapid AI advancements have shaped the social development of Generation Alpha, including challenges related to isolation, digital dependence, and shifting social dynamics
3. Explore Strategies to Foster Social Interest and Meet Generation Alpha Where They Are: Attendees will gain practical strategies for cultivating social interest and meaningful relationships with Generation Alpha, focusing on how to meet them where they are, including through digital platforms and understanding their unique needs.

About the Presenter
Anthony Turner is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) and Minnesota Board of Social Work–approved Clinical Supervisor with over 18 years of experience in the mental health fi eld. His career, shaped by both his professional expertise and personal experiences, is driven by a commitment to culturally responsive and equitable practices in education and mental health.
Anthony currently serves as the Behavioral and Mental Health Special Services Supervisor in Brooklyn Center Community Schools (ISD 286), where he provides leadership in student mental health, behavioral support, and special services. In this role, he focuses on strengthening systems of care, supporting staff development, and ensuring students and families have access to high-quality, equitable services.
As a Black male social worker, Anthony brings a perspective informed by his identity and deep connection to his community. He is passionate about family-centered care, supporting the well-being of underserved families, and mentoring the next generation of social workers and educators. He is also pursuing a dual licensure program in K–12 Principal and Director of Special Education to further extend his leadership and impact on student success.
Outside of his professional life, Anthony is a devoted husband and father. He and his wife, Jakarta, recently celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary, and together they are raising a healthy, rambunctious 7-year-old son. As a family, they love to travel, spend time out in nature, enjoy movie nights, and spend lots of time with extended family.
