The number of ethical violations in Minnesota has grown exponentially in recent years; even seasoned professionals can make mistakes that cause real client harm. Join us to learn about the ethical violations most often faced by Minnesota social workers, key concepts in risk management to protect supervisor and supervisee, and tools for addressing ethical dilemmas in supervision.

 

 

 

About the Presenter

Karen Goodenough, MSW, LGSW, is Executive Director of the National Association of Social Workers, MN Chapter. For 20 years, Karen has supervised interns, volunteers, contractors, board members, and staff from various professional backgrounds. Previously, Karen worked in direct practice for 6 years and non-profit program management for 12 years; was a consultant for 3 years in evaluation, data utilization and strategic planning; and served for 11 years as adjunct faculty in numerous MSW programs. Karen is currently pursuing a Ph.D in Social Work from the University of Minnesota.

Please join us as we talk about some of the joys, challenges and rewards of mentoring, supporting, teaching and supervising the next generation of social workers. Whether you’ve worked with over 20 interns in the past or are just beginning to think about supervising one, you will learn something new from this session. Any and all social workers (and interns!) are welcome to attend. This webinar may be counted as a supervision CEU.
 

About the Presenter

Melissa is an Assistant Professor of Social Work and Family Studies, Social Work Field Coordinator at St. Olaf College. She has over 20 years of social work practice experience, mostly focused within public and private child welfare. She has been working in social work education since 2013.

These chats take place from 12-1 p.m. every other Wednesday between April 15 and June 24, 2020.

The changes brought on by coronavirus (COVID-19) are being felt in many ways. These free bi-weekly online chats offer NASW-MN Members the opportunity to connect about how you're coping in the midst of all the changes to your personal and professional lives. We will spend the hour discussing things like self-care and adapting our social work practice, and providing a space for us to talk and interact as social workers.*
 
All sessions will take place via Zoom Online Meetings. You will require a computer with reliable internet connection, microphone, speakers, and webcam. Check your system's readiness by joining a test meeting.
