It is an honor to share that our very own Dr. KG has been named NASW’s 2024 Chapter Executive of the Year by the Council of Chapter Executives (COCE) at their meeting on December 5, 2024, in Washington, D.C. This prestigious honor celebrates her exceptional leadership, advocacy, and unwavering contributions to supporting social workers and advancing the social work profession. This award not only honors her achievements but also highlights the bright future she continues to shape for NASW-MN and the broader field of social work.
To be eligible for this award, an executive director must be in excellent standing with NASW, demonstrate high levels of skills in association management, be actively participating in policy advocacy, make outstanding contributions to our association, and be invested in community service outside of their work role. Dr. KG easily exceeds expectations in all these areas – it is part of who she is and a testament to her grounding in our social work values.
Dr. KG’s nomination for this prestigious award was supported by glowing testimonials from numerous colleagues and Minnesota members. During her tenure, Dr. KG has dramatically transformed NASW-MN by elevating our professionalism, advancing our profession, mentoring members and cultivating leaders, and creatively expanding our services to meet the evolving needs of members. Thanks to her effective leadership of a phenomenal team of staff and members, NASW-MN is thriving, and has the respect of numerous other state chapters and our national office.
Her advocacy on behalf of social workers is unrivaled. Dr. KG has played a critical role in advancing key priorities, including the Interstate Compact, expanding provisional licensure in Minnesota, and advocating for title protection. She has also tirelessly championed equity and accessibility, supporting students and emerging professionals entering the field.
Dr. KG’s influence extends far beyond NASW-MN. A dedicated community leader, she has contributed to her local area by starting a high school cheer team and even running for County Commissioner. Her ability to connect with people, nurture relationships, and empower others reflects her deep dedication to the core values of social work.
Congratulations, Dr.KG, on this well-deserved recognition! Your passion, vision, and transformational leadership inspire us all. Thank you for your extraordinary contributions to NASW-MN, the social work profession, and your community. We are proud of you, and you inspire us all!
