The NASW MN Chapter is pleased to offer a short-term remote Summer Fellowship in Political Action designed to provide hands-on experience in advocacy, civic engagement, and the endorsement process.
This fellowship is ideal for an emerging professional or student interested in the intersection of social work values and public policy. The fellow will play an active role in supporting our political action committee’s work to evaluate and endorse candidates for elected office in Minnesota who align with social work priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the planning and coordination of candidate endorsement processes
Assist with organizing materials, communications, and logistics for endorsement activities
Participate in discussions related to policy, advocacy, and social work values in the political landscape
Contribute to documentation and follow-up related to committee decisions
Support the planning and execution of a fundraiser for social work candidates
Assist in communicating opportunities for social workers to support endorsed candidates through door-knocking, phone banks, parades, etc.
Learning & Professional Development:
Gain direct exposure to the political endorsement process
Develop skills in advocacy, policy analysis, and professional communication
Receive mentorship and insight into leadership within the social work profession
Engage with experienced professionals working at the intersection of policy and practice

Timeline: June–August (flexible within this window)
Time Commitment: Approximately 10–15 hours per week, fully remote
Compensation: $2,000 stipend
This fellowship offers a unique opportunity to deepen understanding of how social workers influence policy and elections, while contributing meaningfully to the advancement of social justice through political engagement.
